Russell L. Bauer

Russell L. Bauer
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell L. Bauer, a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who left this world on October 7, 2026. Born on December 9, 1940, Russell lived a life rich in service, love, and adventure, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Russell was born to Alfred and Sarah Bauer, who instilled in him the values of hard work and dedication that he carried throughout his life. A proud veteran, Russell dedicated 20 years of his life to serving in the United States Navy, where he spent most of his time on submarines. His commitment and bravery earned him several distinguished awards, including the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. After his time at sea, he shared his knowledge and passion for the Navy by teaching at the Naval Guided Missiles School until his retirement in 1977. Upon returning to Spring Green, Russell applied his skills and industrious nature while working at Thermo Dynamics and Prems Well Drilling. He was known for his resourcefulness and ability to fix just about anything, a testament to his lifelong eagerness to learn and create. Russell was a man of many interests. He found joy in the quiet patience of fishing, the camaraderie of a good card game, and the simple pleasure of an Old Style Beer. He was a real pro when it came to crossword puzzles even doing them in pen instead of pencil which is quite an accomplishment. He was a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins, and his collection of hats was as vibrant and varied as the stories he loved to tell. Russell’s love and legacy live on in his surviving family: his daughter, Laura Dillman, and her husband Chris; his granddaughter, Lindsay Rodriguez, and her husband Yuri. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Carol Schmalowski (Jack), Ron Bauer (Audrey), Sharon Heiser (Lenny), Kevin Bauer (Barb), and Diane Wilkinson (Gene), each of whom shared a special bond with him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gina Bauer; his brothers, Dennis and Stanley Bauer; sister-in-law, Darleen Bauer and brother-in-law, Francis Pulvermacher. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Spring Green with Military Honors conducted by the Spring Green American Legion Post #253. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass. A private family burial will be held in the Helen Cemetery. As we remember Russell’s legacy, his family requests that memorial donations be made in his honor to the US Navy Memorial Foundation, a tribute befitting his lifelong dedication to the service and his fellow sailors. May Russell L. Bauer be remembered not only for his service and skills but for his kind heart and the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished. We would like to thank the wonderful people at the Greenway Manor and the River Valley Clinic for the excellent care they provided to Russell during his long stay.
